''Last Tango in Halifax'' is a British romantic drama series that started airing on BBC One on 20 November 2012. To date eighteen episodes have aired. The series was written by screenwriter Sally Wainwright, loosely adapting the story of her mother's second marriage. ''Last Tango in Halifax'' stars Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid as former childhood sweethearts Alan and Celia who are now in their seventies. The series follows their romance following a reunion via social media, sixty years after their last meeting. The lives of Celia's daughter Caroline (Sarah Lancashire) and Alan's daughter Gillian (Nicola Walker) often provide a source of drama and are used to explore wider themes surrounding family.〔
The first series of ''Last Tango In Halifax'' aired between 20 November and 19 December 2012. It was the UK's highest rated new mid-week television drama of 2012 and was re-commissioned for a second series. The second series aired from 19 November 2013 to 24 December 2013. The series was re-commissioned for a third series on 24 December 2013, ahead of the final episode of the second series.
